Objectives:
The course provides vocational education training leading to a formal qualification in transport safety investigation for new and experienced transport safety investigators. The program is designed to provide investigators with the required knowledge, skills and experience to undertake a less complex transport safety investigation.
Prerequisites:
Entrants to the course are required to have the technical or professional qualifications and or workplace experience deemed by the Bureau as providing a suitable background to work as a transport safety investigator. Candidates must be either employed by the ATSB or work in a similar investigative environment.
Remarks:
The ATSB is a multi modal safety investigation Bureau covering aviation, marine and rail modes of transport. Persons with the following backgrounds/expertise are currently employed as Transport Safety Investigators; Licensed Air Transport Pilot; LAMEs; Graduate Engineer; Cabin Safety Specialist; Air Traffic Controller; Master Class 1; Marine Engineer Class 1; Psychologists. This is a new course developed by the Bureau and nationally accreditation at the Diploma level in 2002. The course offers recognition of current competencies and prior learning, which may lead to an abbreviated development program for some candidates. The full course could take approximately 18 months involving a mix of structured on-the-job learning with self-paced learning guides and formal course work.

Tujuan dari kursus ini adalah untuk mempersiapkan personnel terlatih (Engineer, Pilot, Flight Attendant, Ground Support, CASO, dan Supervisor / Manager) baik pada operator penerbangan, pengelola Bandar Udara, juga semua unsur didalam industri penerbangan, agar memiliki pengetahuan yang cukup bagaimana melakukan suatu investigasi kecelakaan pesawat udara sehingga dapat membuat tindakan korektif untuk mencegah kecelakaan serupa terjadi kembali.
